Back when I was young and fertile and doing that monthly cycle thing, a big tell that it was my time of month was my getting the urge to cut my hair. So much so, that I’d have to take a pause and ask if this is really what I wanted to with my life….. OR, if I waited a week, might my mind might have other ideas. Yes, I’m saying that cutting my hair was a PMS symptom and depending on how my life was going at the moment, reflected how much hair I wanted to cut off. That pixie cut of 2019? Enough said.
Hair is one of those things that we bring with us into our future. They say that skin recycles every 35-40 days. Though, when people get older it can take as long as 90 days. Hair though…. That sort of stays with us until we decide to cut it off. The hair on my head, what adventures has it seen me through? What secrets does it hold? Who has it known? Why does it want to be released?
Even though my monthly cycle stopped a few years ago, I still get the urge to cut my hair. The kind of visceral urge that makes it feel more like freeing myself of some sort of shackle. Today was one of those days. Fortunately for me, the urge was restrained enough for me to first Youtube search “how to properly cut your own bangs”…..
Snip. Snip. Snip.
Exhale.
Release.
And now, I have bangs.
Fun thing about my hair, is it always grows back.
